Festive Little Canvas by Kathy Adams

Happy Cinco De Mayo! Kathy here today to share a 6" x 6" canvas using a Melissa Frances Flea Market Find Applique, Art Anthology mediums, a medallion stencil, and some bright colored paint pens. I drew inspiration from Mexican tiles, with their bright colors and geometric shapes.

Flea Market Find: Pisa Metal Applique

Art Anthology Fluorite and Rhodolite Gemstones

Wild Orchid Colorations Spray

6" x 6" Deep Edge Canvas

Medallion Stencil

Light Molding Paste

Diamond Background Stamp

Bright Colored Paint Pens

Tutorial

Start by spreading molding paste through the medallion stencil, and let dry. Add Fluorite and Rhodolite Gemstones.

While the Gemstones are still wet, spray with Wild Orchid Colorations Spray. To create the subtle tone-on-tone pattern, I stamp a diamond background stamp onto the sides and edges of the canvas while everything was still wet.

Once everything is dry, use paint pens to outline and highlight the raised medallion.

Add upholstery tacks to the edges of the canvas. Make sure to measure from the center to get them evenly spaced.

Lightly sand the metal Flea Market Finds Applique and add a light coat of gesso to ensure that the mediums stay put!

Paint the Applique with Gemstones and let dry.

Add a few coats of Gold Metal Effects letting them dry between coats.

Glue the rhinestones onto the Applique and the canvas.

Glue the Applique to the center of the canvas.

Stacked Canvases by Kathy Adams

Hi crafty friends! I have a crazy project for you today using lots of Melissa Frances goodies and 3 small canvases. I've never stacked canvases before and really haven't seen 3 stacked on top of each other so while in the midst of this project, I questioned whether it would hold together! Lots of glue later and it seems to be holding up well!

Supplies

Capri Metal Applique

Siena Metal Applique

Wood Veneer Embellishments

Art Anthology Colorations Sprays

Purple and Gold Paints

Square Deep Edge Canvases in 8", 6" and 4"

Beacon 3 in 1 Adhesive

Lace

Instructions

Glue lace onto the edges of each canvas.

Prime all three canvases with gray gesso by mixing black and white gesso together.

For the 8" canvas, paint Art Anthology Mardi Gras Velvet on the sides and top. I left the middle unpainted since it would be covered by the 6" canvas.

Next, I sprayed it with Plush Colorations Spray

To add some shine, paint Fluorite Gemstones and set aside to dry.

For the 6" canvas, paint a mix of Art Anthology Imperial Sorbet and Holbein Luminous Purple on sides and top. Then spray with Plush Colorations Spray and let dry.

For the 4" canvas, paint with various lavender paints.

Then add shimmer and shine with Art Anthology Imperial Sorbet and Rhodolite Gemstones.

Next, for the embellishments, paint the swirly circles with gold paint.

For the wings, crown and smaller wood, add some rust color to the gold. After it dries, apply Crackle Accents and let dry.

After they are dry and cracks form, spray with Plush and Warm Colorations Sprays and let them sit for about 3 minutes with the spray puddled on top.

For the Appliques, sand lightly then gesso.

Paint with gold paint and let dry. I added some gold wax rub to enhance the grooves and curves.

Time to put it all together using liquid glue, and use plenty of it on the canvases! Let everything dry for at least 30 minutes before placing the whole piece upright. Also, it's best to add the picture hanger BEFORE you start. Yep, I forgot!
