Hi crafty folks! Kathy Adams here today to share how I created this spring layout using a photo I took on one of my walks. I used Melissa's lovely embellishments including wood, resin, flowers and crepe paper, as well as Art Anthology's mediums to create my layout.
The Supplies
The Background
Start with 12" x 12" watercolor paper and spray liberally with water. Spray Art Anthology Marlin, Waimea Bay and Ink Spot Colorations Sprays, adding more water as needed, using a brush to move the color around.
Follow the sprays with a coat of gesso.
While the layers are still wet, use the Art Anthology Dottie Stencil and a baby wipe to remove some of the gesso to create subtle texture.
A bit more Waimea Bay Colorations Spray just because it's my favorite.
Splatters of gesso mixed with some of the spray adds to the subtle texture. After the paper completely dries, apply long strips of adhesive to the back and mount it onto dark gray card stock. This helps the paper flatten out. I love to add sewing around the edges also.
The Embellishments
Coat the wood circles with gesso and then add crackle medium in random areas. Let dry. To bring out the crackle, spray with Silk Tie Colorations Spray and wipe away excess.
The wood key gets a spray of Silk Tie and a coat of Art Anthology Ash Velvet.
Making the Crepe Paper Flower
Cut strips of the crepe paper and round the edges. Longer, wider strips make bigger flowers. I cut some wider than others and layered the wider ones on the bottom.
Layer 6-8 strips and make a small slit in the center on each side but don't cut through it. Gather with coated wire or twine and tie on the wide side. Pull the petals apart side to side and fluff.
Trim petals if needed. Next, paint the Resin Blossom with Tink Sorbet and spray with Granny Smith Colorations Spray. Let dry and glue to the center of the crepe flower using Zip Dry liquid glue.
Paint Frost Sorbet randomly on the flower petals, concentrating mostly on the edges. Frost is a clear coat medium with sparkle and will help to strengthen the crepe paper.
Putting It All Together
Cut up the White Delicate Blossoms and layered them with the embellishments around the photo.
The saying is cut from the Chalk Talk Treat Bag to fit inside the wood embellished circle.
Add the title using stickers and a Silhouette Cameo cut file.
As a final touch, splatter Silk Tie Colorations Spray using a fan brush, covering the photo and flower to protect it.
