The journey of a breast cancer patient is frequently fraught with speed bumps, set-backs, scares, victories and successes. Today Melissa is encountering one of those speed bumps. A few weeks ago Melissa discovered a lump in her nose and eyelid. She was worried and immediately contacted her doctors to get it looked into. Her doctors are 99.9% sure that the lumps will be benign, however given her stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis; they are being proactive in investigating it. Today Melissa will undergo a biopsy surgery just to make sure that everything is OK. From tackling a speed bump to celebrating a victory; while today will see Melissa undergoing these tests, Friday will see her celebrating the end of her active treatment for her original stage 3 diagnosis. After 18months of going to the hospital every 3 weeks for her herceptin infusion, Melissa will receive her last dose! Melissa calls her herceptin infusions 'good chemo' unlike 'bad chemo', which affects all the cells in the body; 'good chemo' specifically targets the cancer cells and has fewer side effects. As you can imagine with the end of her active treatment in sight, Melissa is feeling excitement, joy and a sense of accomplishment.
Today we would encourage you to leave Melissa a note of encouragement as she undergoes her biopsy surgery today. And be sure to stop by tomorrow as it will mark the beginning of a weeklong countdown celebration full of inspiration, encouragement and fun giveaways!
Positive thoughts and prayers are going up for Melissa.

Congrats on your last treatment. I hope you beat this monster. That is what I call my brain tumor. So far I am lucky that it has not grown and I have not had to chemo or radiation. But I have some awful symptoms. I think you are very brave and strong for fighting this and I will keep you in my thoughts. Continue to be strong!!!!

My step mother had breast cancer 5 years ago and is in remission. We were scared with her, and celebrated the end of chemo and radiation with her as well. We planted a red maple tree, her favourite, when she started chemo and it's flourishing today just as she is.
You are a brave and strong woman and you will beat this!!
