SCRAPBOOKING:
When and how did you get into scrapbooking? My mom brought me with her to some Creative Memory parties when I was in high school. I was hooked. Then when my first son was born in 2001 I noticed how much the styles were changing and evolving. At that point I really got into it and have never stopped!
What is your favorite Melissa Frances Product? Wow, it is hard to choose, but I think I have to go with the papers! I love patterned paper--can never get enough of it! The Hush-A-Bye line is my current favorite!
What music (if any) do you listen to while you scrap? Most of the time I listen to talk radio, but I also love oldies and current country music. Any classic rock and roll song from the 1950's is my favorite though.
What do you like to snack on while you scrap? Chocolate in any shape or form!
How would you describe your scrapbooking style? Very layered. I like to pile it on--especially the patterned papers. Despite the layers, I do like to maintain clean lines and a somewhat graphic feel. I definitely would not call my style freestyle, grungy, or shabby, but it doesn't exactly qualify as graphic or simple either!
What is more important to you…getting the photos into albums, or indulging in creativity? Hummmm, I guess for me it is all about remembering the moments--the photos are a big part of that, but the title, journaling, and even the design are all a part of capturing the memories I never want to forget--so I guess I would have to say both because the creativity of a layouts design and the photos are all a part of capturing the memory to me.
Where do you find inspiration? Target is my favorite inspiration starter. I love the graphic design people they have working for them. I always leave that store with a ton of ideas, from color combos to card ideas. I also find music and junk mail can be very inspiring!
Do you like to crop with others or scrap alone? When I crop with others I just end up talking and visiting the whole time. If I really want to scrapbook, I'll work alone.
How has scrapbooking changed your life? It has really helped me to become a better photographer, it has also allowed me to meet and work with some wonderful and amazing people I would otherwise never have met. Most importantly though, It is helping me record the most important thing in the world to me--my family! Thanks to scrapbooking I'll always know what cute things my boys said as toddlers, what their kindergarten projects looked like, how small they were as newborns, and what my feelings, emotions, and thoughts were about all the moments we shared.
What is one scrapbooking tool, can’t you live without? It used to be my trimmer, but I have to admit I have a love affair with my magnetic self healing mat. I love being able to use the magnets to keep a layout I'm working on from moving around. With all the layers I do, it is really helpful to have something that can hold down some elements while I'm rearranging others. I don't know how I ever scrapbooked without it!
What format do you scrap? (12x12, 8.5x11 etc)? Both, but mostly of the time it's 12x12
Which do you prefer? Scrapbook layouts, cards, altered projects? Layouts, but I like the others too!
Do you have any organization or time saving tips you could share? My number one tip, would be to just dive in. I used to take forever to decide what to scrapbook about, then I would take forever trying to come up with the perfect papers and embellishments. Not I just grab the first photos that interest me and dive in. I guess you could say I stopped worrying about perfection and just focused on having fun!
